I was particularly interested to read your comments about LeGuin -- I've struggled to read her for years and just never got on with her and not been sure why. I think you've put your finger on it -- she's a beautiful prose writer but sometimes the plot disappears under the lovely words -- and I'm basically a plot/story/character person when it comes to fiction. And if you like 'Fingersmith', you probably would like Waters' other books! Now SHE does plot and character! :-)
