No-cost Flickr Mosaic Swap: Valentine's Day Theme
Swap Coordinator:supaflydesigns (contact)
Swap categories: Themed  Letters & Writing  Photography
Number of people in swap:25
Location:Other
Type:None
Last day to signup/drop:February 9, 2008
Date items must be sent by:February 14, 2008
Number of swap partners:5
Description:

I'll be honest, I'm not a huge fan of Valentine's day, but who doesn't like receiving Valentine's Day cards? If you'd like a guarantee that you'll receive 5 valentines this year, then you've come to the right place.

This swap is open to anyone from newbies to seasoned pros, and since it's all web-based, it's open to international swappers as well.

INSTRUCTIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

Using the Big Huge Labs (bighugelabs.com/flickr) Mosaic Maker (bighugelabs.com/flickr/mosaic.php), create one 4x4 mosaic (that's 16 pictures) of Valentine's Day related Flickr photos (you might search for images using these words: Valentine, pink, red, cupid, rose, chocolate, heart, love, etc...). Then:

  • Upload/post your mosaic to your Flickr account or your blog/website.
  • Email the link to your mosaic to five partners.

OR

  • Save your mosaic some place you can easily access it.
  • Email your mosaic AND the links to the original images to five partners.

MAKING YOUR MOSAIC:

Big Huge Labs has an excellent Mosaic Maker with easy-to-follow instructions that guide you through making your 4x4 mosaic.

Following the directions provided by Big Huge Labs, you can either upload your mosaic to your Flickr account, your blog/website or you can save your mosaic to your computer and just email it if you don't have a Flickr account or blog/website.

It's important to give credit to the people whose images you use in your mosaic. Fortunately the Mosaic Maker automatically includes the links when you upload your mosaic to Flickr or your blog/website. If you opt to make your 4x4 mosaic another way, be sure to supply your partners with links to the original images or the profiles of the people whose images you use.

CHOOSING YOUR IMAGES:

The mosaic you make should include Valentine's Day related Flickr images. Your images can be by the same person or several people, they just need to relate to Valentine's Day in some way. Make sure you have 16 images that you really like and want to share with others.

EARNING HEARTS:

Send your link/mosaic with a personal message -- that means in order to receive a heart, you should send five separate emails rather than one group email. Greet your partner by name and wish them a Happy Valentine's Day!

FAMOUS LAST WORDS:

You don't need to have a Flickr account, a Big Huge Labs account or a blog/website to participate in this swap -- but it does help.

The image above is an example of a 4x4 mosaic of Flickr images that I created using the Mosaic Maker. To see how the mosaic looks when it's finished, click here. If I were going to use this mosaic in my swap, I would email this link or this link to my partners.

This may seem daunting, but it's really not -- I'm just trying to be thorough. Have fun, and holler if you need help -- I'll try to respond as quickly as possible.

I'm a fan of these mosaics too since your previous swap! :D

Awesome, I've been seeing these more and more and I'm so in love with these. They're awesome for blogging.

I've been making them by hand with my photo program. It's cool to know there is a website to go to to do it easier. I'll have to give it a try.

I made a mosaic yesterday, themed on dreaming about snow, and posted it on my blog yesterday. Feel free to take a look

Thanks.

Hey, I hope since this is a digi swap that everyone will get a chance to upload to the swap gallery here, it'd be nice to see everyone's, not just my partners.

Hey everyone! I just wanted to warn ya'll to be careful who's picture's you use for making this mosaic. I made mine yesterday and used a picture from the user adda dada. I got an extremely rude email from him, telling me to remove his picture. Something about not using credit, which I did and the fact that it was label "no cost"..I labeled the picture with the swap name and put a link to this swap. He called me knows and tossed around a few 4 letter words. When I tried to respond, he had me blocked...what a wuss! So I blocked him, then noticed he had even commented on the picture. So I removed the picture and did anther one. It's currently on private viewing only in my Flickr account, with a label and link to this swap along with credits, just like it was before. I also put a note saying that if you didn't want me to use your picture please let me know nicely and I would remove it. I will make it public viewable when this swap goes live though.

So just make sure you credit and be careful of who's pictures you use because some people out there can be d!*kh3ads!

the last swap was the first time I've made a flickr mosaic... it was a lot of fun, and I look forward to collecting the images for another one! (and thanks for the warning about possible unfriendlies...)

Poor Dixie, sorry you had such an issue with your creation! I went through photobucket looking for love icons and most of them there were all duplicates, you know, everyone was saving them and reusing them. I figure the art is the bigger picture of it. If you snagged a pic that was from a pay for prints kind of gallery that'd be one thing, but places like that, it just isn't completely copyrighted. What a bummer.

I'm signing up for this because I know I can complete it. I loved the last mosaics I got. Plus, this is a way to share some love by showing off things I love.

I've sent my links via both e-mail and PM so everyone should get them from me now. I've also posted them in this swaps photo gallery. This was a fun swap!

Helena 02/12/2008 #

I've posted mine in the gallery as well!
