Description:

This dotee swap will be to represent the woman in history Cleopatra- Queen of the Nile. Of course to be a dotee it must have a tail and a hanging loop and be between 4 and 6 inches. I encourage this series of dolls to be what I call a "step up" dotee. Meaning a step up from traditional dotees by being a bit more realistic. Make her have a head and a torso and then dress her like you would a doll. No arms or legs to worry over for fit of clothes but still humanistic form. Or in this case... like a mummy ! Have fun with embellishing her. Check out images on line of artistic renditions of the queen and then jump in. If you have any questions please contact me. This swap is Theme oriented so you can start on your Cleo today. The send date is only 2 weeks from last day to sign up so start on your doll before the swap assignment.

I guess what i was trying to get across was to make a dotee that has a bit more form than just a rectangle . More like a rectangle with a circle on top. LOL i am so bad techy-wise. When it comes to adding pics I am a total loser! Do you remember the little people toys from fischer price? the body with head ... kind of that shape... so you can actually "dress" your dotee. Keep asking questions and Ill keep trying to answer LOL
When i make my step up dotees I make the body/head shape and stuff it. THEN i dress and make her up. So the clothes add a bit of shape to her as well. Since there are no arms to fit it really is simple to stitch on a fabric scrap to make a dress or shirt... add a bit of trim to make a belt or collar etc.

I made my pattern with a gourd shape in mind, with a head the size of a quarter and then a larger bottom with sort of a neck. I notice a lot of people just make rectangles but I like mine with shape and dressed up to the hilt. My cat's name was Cleopatra and my bedroom was Egyptian when I was in high school. A great dotee for me.

Gourd shaped is a great description! Perhaps at some future time you and I could do a private swap... I would love to do a Cleo-CATra dotee! I think it would be a fun dotee but not exactly what i am trying to do in this swap. Let me know if you are interested.
