Description:

I love the idea of creating and receiving miniature pieces of art. But everyone seems to do collages and scrap-booking when it comes to ATCs. I love collages, but was hoping to receive more original artworks. If you feel the same way, this swap is for you.

You may choose your medium; graphite, watercolor, acrylic, color pencil, charcoal...but please no stickers, printouts or collages. This will be senders choice. I think it would be neat to see each individual's own artistic expression and creation, but feel free to view your partner's profile for inspiration.

And don't be scared if you don't have drawing or painting skills or training. Art is about freedom of expression, not what popular culture deems as artistic. It doesn't have to be realistic just look at impressionism, cubism, graffiti art, expressionism, fauvism, and pointillism. All large movements in art history, but not necessarily "mainstream." (then or now)

Newbies are welcome. I'm not going to state a specific rating requirement, but I will view profiles and if I think you might flake, I will ban you. I will angel if necessary. You will have 2 partners, please create one original piece of art for each. Standard artist trading card requirements.

I think ATCs are a type 3 swap. Just sayin.....

I changed it to a 3, it's my first hosting swap :)

I love this kind of ATC swap. I hope you host more of these.

I love hand drawn/painted ATC swaps and am definitely joining, but I'm not sure about your phrasing. Collage and mixed media most certainly -can- be fine art, even if a lot of the ones traded here aren't necessarily. I mean, one of mine is in a show at a museum as we speak. Picasso did collage, for instance, and collage and assemblage were important parts of the surrealist and dadaist movements.

Although there is a distinct difference between "collage" and "scrapbooking"...

Starryangel 06/22/2012 #

I made changes so no one else is confused. I had always considered painting and drawing to be the fine arts. I know the phrase can encompass much more, but didn't realize people would take it so many different ways. I will know better for next time, and yes I plan on hosting more hand drawn/painted ATC swaps :)

So, if I were to do more of these ATC swaps, but with specific mediums, would anyone be interested? I see scrap-booked, collaged and mixed medium ATCs all the time, and different themes, but never specifically graphite, or watercolor, or pen and ink. Would this be getting too specific?

Love the idea of specific ATC's..always up for a challenge artistically. :)

I will probably assign partners Sunday night before I go to bed, to give people enough time to decide if they want to join, so if you're watching, don't be shy, sign up now! :)

Don't worry: that's good-specific, not bad-specific. I just assumed ATCs were more of a scrapbooking thing and that's why I let them pass me by, but when I saw "handdrawn" - without even knowing it was an ATC - it piqued my interest bigtime! I love the idea of guidelines and arbitrarily set limits that are out of our control. I love having some of the decisions taken away from me. I end up creating things I never would have otherwise.

There is a handdrawn ATC group, I belong too. In case any of you are looking to join more groups like that.

Happy Swapping Time! Remember 2.5 x 3.5 inches, Fill out the backs of your ATCs so we know who you are, when it was made, what the title is, for what swap, how to contact you.... Make sure they are sturdy and in excellent condition. Label your card or envelope somewhere so we know what swap it is. *And I've created a Graphite Drawing Swap, so don't forget to sign up, there will be more specific mediums to follow!
