Description:

A Tawashi is a Japanese dish scrubbie. There are several patterns on Crochet Pattern Central.com and I'm sure if you Google it there are more on other sites. They are quick and easy to make. They take me about an hour or a little less to make, depending on interruptions.

We will have 3 partners each and everyone will make each partner 2 Tawashi's. So you will be making 6 Tawashi's. One will be made in your partners favorite color(s), and the other will be sender's choice. You can make both the same pattern or you can make 2 different patterns, up to you. You can add a loop or not.

Please use cotton yarn, like Peaches N Creme or Bernat Cottontots, or Lion Brand or the like. Hobby Lobby has some nice cotton yarn too. If I remember correctly you can get 2 Tawashi's out of 1 roll of a 2.5 oz roll.

*If you would rather use acrylic or an acrylic/cotton blend or another type of fiber, please contact your partner and make sure that is ok with them.

Ok now for the nitty gritty.. I am going to allow newbies with a well filled out profile, and a rating of 4.95 and higher with no 1's or 3's in the last 6 months. Also you must have at least 5 Type 3 swaps under your belt. Please make sure that you have your favorite color(s) listed in your profiles.

I am making this international because these are very light and shouldn't cost alot to send. I can angel if needed as I love to make these.

Please be sure to put a note in your package with username and swap name.

Remember, not everyone is an expert crocheter, so don't rate based on the quality of the package but on the fact that you got something and it was what is required. Feel free to give hearts if you get something you find to be a perfect match to you or if more then 2 were sent. Everyone loves hearts!

If this goes over good, I will do more, maybe some holiday themed ones too!

Any color we choose correct?

JMM876 07/31/2012 #

Any color, any style for one of them, and your partners favorite color(s), any style for the other one.

I really want to do this swap, but I am a newbie to crochet and just learning. How long on average does it take to make one Tawashi?

Momskii 08/ 6/2012 #

I just found a pattern for a Tawashi (I had never made one of these before) and the first one I made took about an hour or so. The second I am still working on as I had to leave it and I also decided to make it with a smaller hook. I am just watching this swap for now, as I don't know if time will permit me to make 6 in the allotted time.

@virgovegan I can generally make one in just 1 hour, but everyone's experience level is different some may be quicker others slower, also it depends on the pattern. Some patterns are more involved then others. But most of them use the basic stitches, single chain (sc), half double chain (hdc), double chain (dc), slip stitch (ss or sl st). Hope this helps you!

For those that are unsure of joining due to time restrictions, remember only 3 of the 6 you have to make are profile specific as to color, so you can get started early on the 3 that you pick the color on early and have those out of the way. That way you only have 3 to get done from the actual sign up to deadline time-frame. This is how I am doing it. I already have the 3 done that I picked the colors for, now I just have to wait to see my partners profile to do the other 3. Thanks to all who have joined already and those watching, I sure hope you join!

Based on how many have joined and how many are watching, I am going to do a themed Tawashi Swap for Christmas, so keep an eye out for it!! It will be basically the same, except all tawashi's will be Christmas colors or related.

All the instructions I've read prefer acrylic yarn as it dries quicker.

JMM876 08/13/2012 #

@marles I prefer cotton, just my personal preference, as I use mine mainly for basic dishes and not scrubbing stuck on gunk in pots and pans. Acrylic/cotton blend would be the ideal if you plan on using it for everything, acrylic will work better on stuck on messes, cotton for those quick easy clean ups. If you want to use acrylic and your partner doesn't mind, that's fine!

Sorry it took a few days to comment back to ya!

I have edited the fiber type..please note if your partner prefers one type over another.

Thanks!
