Description:

The idea is for each participant to start their own art book, and send it on for others to create in. In the end, all books return to their original owners. This will be ongoing, and I'll open a new swap for this purpose every month. If you want to join: 1. Create your own book - it can be an altered book, a notebook, journal, scrapbook, boardbook - it's up to you. Design the covers, and anything else you want inside. You can choose your own theme for the book, too, but most importantly, include a page/cover with all your details, including your address, so the book can be returned to you.

  1. Send the book to your current swap partner.

  2. Once the swap partner receives the book, they'll have two weeks to create a page/ spread in it. If you received a book with a theme - stay within the theme. Don't forget to sign your name, country and e-mail. Once you're done, send the book to your partner again.

  3. If you've received a book and after you do your spread in it, it's complete - send it back to its original owner.

  4. Be fair. The idea is to create creative pages. Show what you can do. Create fun, interesting pages! If you haven't had time to do anything in the book, that's fine. Just send it on to the next partner. Don't keep it after the send date.

I'm sorry, but I will only be accepting either people with a 5 rating (or if you think you deserve a 5 but don't have one, you can mail me), or people who have an online site/blog/flickr showing that they've participated in this type of swap before.

The swap is international. I've created a Flickr group for this purpose, so we can all post photos of the books!

Does it make sense? Let's play then! :)

isn't it more logical not to open a new swap, but to alter a book and send it to the person I signed for, and so on, until all the books return to their original oner? if you keep open new swap, new people will enter, and some "old" people will forget to join, and it will be ceos...

Hagit 11/ 5/2006 #

Hi Danit, I'm not crazy about the idea of opening new swaps either, but I don't understand what you're suggesting. If I received your book, did my art in it and I send it back to you, then how are we going to continue? Also, the new swaps won't have new people because they'll be password only, and I'm hoping no one will forget to sign up, because everyone wants to receive their book back! :-)

danit 11/ 5/2006 #

you get mine and send it to the person you send yours. then you will get from me the one I got from the person who was supposed to send to me. then I will get from that same person the book he got, and pass that one to you too, and so on. at the end, if no one will brake the circle, you should get your book back from me. I hope I was more clear now. how is that sound.

pequad 11/ 5/2006 #

I am interested in this but I am a bit nervous that my book won't come home to me. Do you have a plan for addressing this if it happens? ~ Carol

Hagit 11/ 6/2006 #

Danit - sounds great - just let me see if I got it right - it means I keep sending to the same person all the time, right? so that means there's a chance that person gets their book back before it's completed. It's still fine, I think. So that's what we'll do.

Hagit 11/ 6/2006 #

pequad - I've taken 2 precautions - one is to only allow people with a high rating in, and the second to say that if someone doesn't have time, they can just pass the book on. I'm hoping it'll do fine. I don't think there's anything else I can do, but will be happy to hear if you have any ideas. Aren't swaps always risky that way? I think they are...I've participated in swaps and never received my swap...I hate it, but it's a risk I'm willing to take because most of the time it's fun and people are fair.

cherriza 11/ 6/2006 #

The problem with opening a new swap is people may get the same partner again where if you do it so the person who sends to you sends it to the next person it will eventually come back to the owner since everyone in the swap is swapping with each other. Everyone will need to remember that they will have to as many books as there are people in the swap though.

Also I would like to join this swap but can you push the date to send til like Nov 30 or something? I'm going to be on vacation that week. With the holidays and all.

another idea instead of opening new swaps is that you open a yahoo group for all the people that have signed up for this. That way we can all easily keep track of our books by posting to the group. Open it for only the people that join up for this swap. We can put everyones address in the database, create a flightlist and so on and so forth. It makes the tracking all the more easier I think.

Just a sugestion.

pequad 11/ 7/2006 #

I agree with Zillah -- I am hosting an art journal round robin that will be wrapping up in december on a yahoo group. It would be useful for communication regarding who has who's book. I always like to know who has my book in a round robin, I think it helps build trust. I also collected the phone numbers of all the players, in case someone went AWOL. ~ Carol

Hagit 11/ 7/2006 #

Pequad and zillah - I opened a flickr group - I think it's more convenient than yahoo, because it's both pictures and discussion, and no one has to get lots of emails, we can just access it and see - registration is free - so i think it would be great if we were all there. I won't be opening new swaps. we'll list our partners, show pictures, and...have lots of fun! :-) Meanwhile, because we're already 12 I turned the swap into "private", because I think 12 is already enugh - what are your thoughts?

pequad 11/ 7/2006 #

Ah yes I see -- 12 probably is plenty of people. Y'all have fun! Maybe if there's another one, I'll join. ~ Carol

due to health problems and being behind in a few swaps ive decided to drop from this one. i don't want to be responsible for any books during the holiday season - i have too much on my plate as it is. i hope you all have fun! xxx Zillah

Hagit 11/18/2006 #

Thanks, Zillah, I hope you feel well!

Hagit 12/ 2/2006 #

Mickey - neither have I, but it's an international swap, and it's only been a few days. I know my book may take up to two weeks to ship, so...:)

Iowascrapemouse 12/ 2/2006 #

It would be nice if our partners could at least email us and let us know it was sent...

Zanara 12/ 4/2006 #

Mickey I sent my book out on November 27th when it had to be in the mail by, it cost me about $10 or $12 to send. If you were worried about it why didn't you email me? On my profile it has my email where your's does not. It should be there by the end of the week I would think.

Zanara 12/ 4/2006 #

Mickey I apologize for the aassumption that you just hadn't listed your email - I just tried to find my email address and it couldn't be found even though I know I put it on my profile. I'm sorry.
