QnT Hand Embroidered Butterfly Blocks #4

April 4, 2013 thru April 30, 2013

PINK Butterfly or PINK butterflies

Let’s start a collection of embroidered butterflies during this year of the butterfly! You might want to put these blocks all on one quilt or use each on a different project. I love butterflies and hand embroidered butterflies are some of my favorites!

--one partner each month

--one 6 ½” (or larger) embroidered butterfly block

One partner should receive from you a block that is at least 6 ½ inches square and has at least one butterfly on it. Blocks should be on plain white background or on white on white print background. You may add other things with your butterfly as long as you have at least one butterfly on each block and only use the color options for that month. Feel free to make multiple butterflies on one block.

Be sure to fill up as much of the 6 ½” block as possible leaving at least a ¼” seam allowance around the outside.

April = at least one pink butterfly (you may use one shade of pink or several shades)

May = at least one purple butterfly (you may use multiple shades of purple or all one)

June = at least one yellow butterfly (as bright and cheerful as you can get the yellow!)

July = one red butterfly, and one blue butterfly on a white background (two butterflies on one block)

August = a multi-colored butterfly or butterflies (this block can be as many colors as you want and you can put as many butterflies on the block as you can get)

September = teal, aqua or turquoise or all three on one block (you may make the butterfly all one color or a combo of all three colors)

October = orange and or peach and or cream butterfly (you may use one or all three colors on this block)

November = black butterfly

December = red, green, blue and gold butterfly (be sure to use all four colors in some way on the block – either one red, one green, one blue and one gold butterfly, or a combination of all four on one butterfly)

Enjoy!

think.....pretty in pink

Question about these- is the entire butterfly to be embroidered, or is it OK to applique a butterfly to the square?

perkl8r 03/28/2013 #

yes, the entire butterly should be embroidered but you may also applique another butterfly to the same block

as long as there is at least one HAND EMBROIDERED butterfly on the block, you will have met the swap requirements Be sure to make your hand embroidered butterfly detailed enough for a good rating. All I mean by that is to do more embroidery than just the outline of a buterfly.

I hope that is clear. Let me know if it is not! Thank you @mariejessie for your question.
