ATCs for Beginners: Watercolor Flower

A number of newbies have expressed interest in ATCs, so this is the first in a series of monthly artist trading card swaps.

The only two rules about ATCs are:

1. They must be 2.5 x 3.5 inches in size. (64mm x 89 mm)
2. They must never be sold, only traded.

Okay, are you ready for the swap requirements?

Don't be scared. :)

• Cut your card stock to the correct size (see above). I recommend using watercolor paper for this swap, but you can use whatever gets the results you like. If you want to make the card extra sturdy, glue a second piece of card stock to the back. For this swap, your edges should be cut neatly and evenly.
• Draw or stamp a flower outline on your card stock. Your flower can be realistic or abstract.
• Add color with some sort of watercolors - watercolor pencil or paints. Even the cheapo stuff in the pans will work. Play around with your paints before adding color to your card, so you can see how the paint looks wet and dry.
• At this point, you can add additional elements but this is optional, not required.
• After your piece is dry, turn your card over and write the name of the swap, your name, and the date on the back.
• Send it off to your partner on time.
