Journal Rules:

Journal can be anything BUT a store bought journal. It has to be something you put together!! Like the pop tart box you emptied this morning tied to an empty cereal box with yarn, ribbon or string. A gutted book jacket with objects stapled to paper ...

The journal must contain a minimum of 30 different "found" things .... Recipes, pictures, wire, beads, yarn, fabric, poems, quotes, sequins, etc .... Anything thing that grabs your attention or you think your partner will like.

Decorate your journal .... use paint, pens, crayons, markers, food coloring, anything to make your journal beautiful!!

Your journal MUST have a picture of your eccentric magpie somewhere in it. Your magpie can be a sticker, a stamp, something you drew, something you made ....

Please think outside the box and be creative but make sure it is something that you would like to receive.

Newbies welcome with a well filled out profile, otherwise must have a rating of 4.99. I reserve the right to ban anyone as I see fit.

Please message me if you have any questions!

Yes, please, may I play? This just sounds like a hoot and a half. I just finished a Traveling Junk Journal Swap. It started off a bit rocky, but it was still so much fun and I can hardly wait for mine to return.

Let me be sure, 30 found things Not 30 pages of found things? I can handle the 30 found things - the other and I will have to drop.

Astridsdream 04/13/2014 #

Awesome grandmaroro ... I would love for you to join. It's for 30 things not pages. And just to clarify the "found objects" can be anything!! A picture you cut out of a magazine, your receipt from grocery shopping, a picture you took, stamped images, die cuts, anything!!

Astridsdream 04/13/2014 #

.... Piece of washi tape, you can write a quote on your journal or on a piece of paper ....

grandmaroro 04/14/2014 #

Awwww - I like "lumpy" things, too, like a lip balm lid found in a parking lot, something from someone's stay at a motel found at the laundromat, found pennies, and so many other oddities that are just so much fun. They are out there, be more observant.

I would feel better if 4.99 were the requirement, but it is too late for that as we have a newbie who has only 1 swap and no ratings. Too many of those and I will drop. I have been flaked on way too many times. True, I have also been flaked on by swappers with "5" ratings, but --- we shall see.

This sounds very interesting. Can you explain to me about the eccentric magpie part though? Is it just something that is symbolic of us individually or what? I will watch out for found things that I could use in this swap and I may decide to jump in.

Astridsdream 04/15/2014 #

Maooose - my idea is just a fun junk journal of whatever catches your eye or you think would be fun to put in it I like grandmaroro's idea with the lumpy things as well. My idea is have fun with it and Don't over-think it. I think anything we make represents us whether we want it to or not.

Grandmaroro - I totally get where your coming from :) I am hoping that nobody flakes. Swapping is suppose to be fun. I included newbies because I was a newbie once and there were several swaps that I wasn't able to join. Maybe I'm to trusting .... I will check profiles as time gets closer and ban anyone I think may be iffy.

We were all newbies and we earned our reputations. There are so many swaps out there especially for newbies that, to me, that is not an acceptable response. That's just me. This is a great topic in the forums. Two sides to every coin.

My theory is that every host sets his / her own rules and if the participants don't like them, just go look for another swap. (and I do)

However, I am really excited about this one and will most likely be hanging around. Going now to see what I can find out about a magpie.. lol

neekahbelle 04/20/2014 #

what exactly is an "eccentric magpie"?

hugs :)

Astridsdream 04/20/2014 #

Whatever you want it to be ... Basically just a junk journal of whatever you find to put in it.

Alice66 04/22/2014 #

I love this! One we have all our lovely magpie found treasures within the journal, is the idea to also leave blank sections/pages so the journal can be used, or fill it up? Or perhaps that's up to our magpie?

RareBlue 04/23/2014 #

So excited about this! I have already built the junk journal and now to collect the bits. So much fun. Heading to China Town here in Victoria at lunch to see what this magpie finds. :)

Astridsdream 04/24/2014 #

Alice66 .... It is totally up to your magpie!

Maooose 04/26/2014 #

I have decided to take the leap and join this swap! I have never built my own junk journal but I am up for the challenge and have found some great YouTube videos lately for ideas and some nice binding tips too. So, I think this will be a fun new challenge for me. :)

Astridsdream 04/26/2014 #

I am so glad everyone has decided to join ... Don't overthink it!! Just have fun win it!! It's all about being creative, trying new things and having fun!!!

DoctorWho 04/28/2014 #

does the paper you use count as found objects

Astridsdream 05/ 4/2014 #

Dr who ... Sorry I just saw this ... No the paper you use isn't considered as a found object.

WhimsyChick 05/ 7/2014 #

I am so excited about this swap too. This is my first junk journal and I have already collected some found objects for it, I have watched a few youtube videos to point me in the right direction but can't wait to step up to the challenge and unleash the creativity. Do we need to put in descriptions of how we came about these objects as now I have a bunch of great stories. This swap had already got me looking out for those little beautiful things that I never would have otherwise looked at... :)

Astridsdream 05/11/2014 #

I think it would be awesome if you wrote how you found them. My idea is for the journal ... Is to be something fun for your partner to enjoy!

Astridsdream 05/11/2014 #

Sorry if my answers are kind of vague. This is the first swap I have hosted that wasn't just a private swap. So I'm learning new things as I go along.

I use the word journal loosely. My thoughts for it is to be a place where you have collected things that have caught your eye. The purpose is to have a fun journal that you would enjoy looking at. With that said ... I think it would be awesome to add personal touch like a story of how you found it or what the significant is but it's not mandatory (at least for this swap - although if I host another I will put it in the rules because I think it's an awesome idea).

Astridsdream 05/11/2014 #

One more thing .... I love getting questions as they really help to improve for the next swap I host and it gives me ideas I haven't thought of!!

WhimsyChick 05/27/2014 #

I love this swap and am having so much fun with it.. You have come up with a great swap and I think I would like to do more journal swapping in the future :)
