Description:

I received a fabulous handmade post card from @Sebastian122 the other day. (That is it in the picture above). It is made with clear packing tape. And is basically "See Through" The picture does NOT do it justice, but if you look closely you can see my cat sitting on the stairs behind the postcard.

Anyway I want to make one...and I thought what a better place than in this group sooo...

  • You will have 1 (one) partner.
  • You will send 1 (one) handmade "see through" postcard
  • Send it naked and stamped
  • Totally Sender Choice
  • Write a nice hello message or quote or some interesting fact about the world in general...just more than "Hey here is your postcard.
  • Be sure to include The Group Name, The Swap Name and your User Name also. : )

You may use absolutely ANY crafting material you would like for making it (including stickers). Just make sure that you use something that would make the postcard "see through". At least a 1/4 but no more than 1/2 of the card should be "See Through".... You can use clear packing tape OR you can laminate it (if you happen to have a laminator). Make sure it is sturdy enough to handle being sent naked.

This is so simple and super cool! If enough people show interest, maybe we could do one more profile specific next time.

Questions? Comments? Concerns? Just ask.

P, it appears that the mailing label is inside the tape/lamination, right? So it would be incorporated INTO the design rather than stuck OVER the design on the outside? Or does it matter? Thx.

The one Pattie sent me does have the shipping label inside the packing tape, but the back side of the label is decorated. Here is the reserve side of the same card as above:

Does this help?

TerryF 09/12/2014 #

Yes, I can see now how it works. Thx Paige! (";)

Is it stiff? If it is, how did it get that way?

Paige1900 09/13/2014 #

It is no really stiff no...but stiff enough to be mailed, like a regular greeting card, but not like a thick card stock

lorettadog 09/13/2014 #

Thank you. :o) I suppose you could use several layers, since it's clear tape?

Paige1900 09/15/2014 #

Pattie didn't use many layers...but it is very mailable. When you get a chance go and test it out...(just random scraps to get the idea), it really is quite mailable. If this were just plain old paper, probably not, the the tape makes it quite pliable.

I think I'll have to wait on this. I'm preparing for a move to the city. :o( But once I'm settled, I'm definitely going to play around with it!

Paige1900 09/16/2014 #

NP...and good luck with your move. : )

TerryF 09/16/2014 #

I think if one were to use many layers, it would no longer be "see through". But using many layers would definitely be another way to use this technique. (";)

I'm hoping to join, I'll have to put this on my watch list for now. Going to make a draft postcard first to see how it turns out first!

Paige1900 09/17/2014 #

This is a lot more simple than it seems. The postcard is very pliable and bendy, BUT because it is done with packing tape (or laminated) it isn't going to be torn. It is sorta like shrinky dink material BEFORE it is shrunk. I could literally roll the PC up into a tube if I wanted to (which I don't because that would just be dumb), but I mention that to explain how bendy, yet durable this type of PC is.

Paige1900 09/17/2014 #

Oh and hope you'll join @HelloCindi they are neat postcards. : )

This PC was harder to make than I expected. Quite the trick to have it look good on both sides. (";)
