Journal Rules:

Journal can be anything BUT a store bought journal. It has to be something you put together!! Like the pop tart box you emptied this morning tied to an empty cereal box with yarn, ribbon or string. A gutted book jacket with objects stapled to paper, a folded paper bag made into a jacket cover, recycling bin finds bound together ...

The journal must contain a minimum of 30 different "found" things .... Recipes, pictures, poems, quotes, pretty wrappers, etc .... Anything thing that grabs your attention or you think your partner will like. These should not all be new items you "found at the craft store" and only about 10% should be scrapbook paper. Instead, keep your eyes peeled for cool items you come across in your day to day. Bus passes, scratch and win tickets, a grocery receipt or a movie ticket, pages from a book you are reading. I like to think that a junk journal is the perfect place for all those little hoarded "bits" that didn't have a home, now they do!

Decorate your journal .... use paint, pens, crayons, markers, food colouring, anything to make your journal beautiful!!

Your journal MUST have a picture of your eccentric magpie somewhere in it. Your magpie can be a sticker, a stamp, something you drew, something you made .... And the last page should be a"reveal" telling a little bit about you and why you chose the "bits" you did.

Please think outside the box and be creative but make sure it is something that you would like to receive.

This is a labour intensive swap and postage may be expensive (my last one went to New Zealand and it took almost $15), so please keep that in mind when signing up. Because of this, you must be in good standing to join and have a few Type 3 swaps under your belt. I will be reviewing profiles to make sure this stays fun for everyone.

If you search "Junk Journal" there are some great tutorials on YouTube on how to build, bind and even decorate your creation.

Please message me if you have any questions!

Love it! My kind of journal. And a swap that is not USA only!

RareBlue 04/ 6/2015 #

Yay! I find that the post moves pretty quick between the UK and North America. That's why I singled the five countries out, if anyone cares to know.

This sounds like so much fun!

I made my journal already. Now to enjoy filling it up. I love magpie journals.

That's funny @Wingy I have started to figure out the colors I hope to use and have been setting aside things. Looking forward to getting started too!

user4532 04/14/2015 #

can we glue book pages together in the journal and not use string to tie the book binding together?

RareBlue 04/17/2015 #

@user4532 it is my preference to bind the book with string but if you have a way of gluing it that makes a book, fill your boots. You could also check with your partner to see what they prefer.
