Description:

Humans need a little magic to inspire them, and my inspiration seeks a diverse cast -- yours, too?

Let's be inspired by the beautiful diversity of humanity, and create some fairies that are, you know, a little more like humanity -- colorful, uniquely gifted, uniquely challenged, and inspired by an array of cultures and environments.

Make an item in the theme of "fairy diversity" for one partner. Sender's choice of medium and inspiration; a high-effort and high-reward swap :) I will of course "fairy" any missed swaps, and screen all potential swappers. If you want a 1:1 swap, I would be happy to do this as well.

This is part of a series of swaps -- we had Santa Diversity, and Gnome Diversity, and I had a lot of fun creating and receiving art that ranged from a very creative Christmas ornament with a special written story, a needle-felted doll, a gnome stuffie that follows its recipient around, and an ink-and-watercolor sketch page of all the gnomes encountered on a family trip.

I hope that you'll feel inspired to join in -- welcome!

Not so much a fairy, but a Korean take on Beauty and the Beast by Na Young Wu -- check out her other illustrations as well -- they are gorgeous!

Mariachi fairies? Oh, the possibilities!

Post your fairy inspirations for others to see here!

Check out these illustrations by Leo and Diane Dillon for Her Stories!

Trina Schart Hyman is a personal favorite illustrator of mine, and collaborated on a collection of fairy stories from a diverse array of cultures with her daughter. Her illustrations also come to mind.

Then there are the fairy penguins, courtesy of Mai Lin

I have no idea what I'm going to make, but I had so much fun with the Gnome Diversity Project that I've got to do this one!

Yay! I love my gnome and I loved my gnome-y vacation as well :)

And here is yet another inspiration possibility: St. Petersburg, Florida: 2men

Also elder fairy tale models in organic settings.

Me thinks I have an idea now. hehe

Exciting! Sadly, I did not get a close up of the pink and black kilt and beard extensions ... but I think the pink tuxedo pants may be even classier?

kiddomerriweather 06/20/2015 #

I disagree. The kilt is waaaaay classier.
