is plastic like the scotch washi tape?

Lolcw 07/14/2015 #

I've not seen any scotch washi tape, so I'm not sure if its like that, sorry @shelbysolemnlyswears

Could you give examples of the brands that the plastic type? Or brands may be ok vs the ones that are not? Thank you.

Plastic tape is like Scotch tape or deco tape. Washi tape tears easily and does not have a white edge where it is torn. Cheap paper tapes like those from the dollar store do not sample well because they crease when wrapped around the card, and even on a slick surface they stick on the last layer and are unusable.

Cheap paper tapes like those from the dollar store do not sample well because they crease when wrapped around the card, and even on a slick surface they stick on the last layer and are unusable. Scotch does make washi tape, as well as deco tape. Just check which one by tearing a piece to see the edge.

If it is shiny, it is plastic or deco tape. Washi is made from paper and the inks do give it a bit of a satin finish but it is definitely not bright and almost reflectively shiny.

I have a Washi tape by Scotch brand and it is excellent. But it is very different from Scotch tape as regular Scotch tape isn't patterned. Scotch used to make it's typical tape with cartoons on it but that was about 15 years ago. I don't think they make it anymore but that came in a dispenser and is NOT Washi. Washi is like thick tissue paper and tears very easily.

Anything that is shiny and doesnt rip like paper, such as deco tape, would be classed as plastic.

shelbysolemnlyswears 07/15/2015 #

Ok thank you :)

CariPeace 07/15/2015 #

Thank you all, for the examples.

I have recently read in the forum that it's a good idea to use clear tape around the card, so it unfolds better. Any other advice?

thebragal 07/18/2015 #

Anything with some shine usually allows the tape to unroll properly. Some people use plastic from packaging, playing cards, laminated paper (packing tape should work.) Just try it and see if it comes off easily.

Laural0uise 07/28/2015 #

I think you mean maximum of one plain tape, right?

Lolcw 07/28/2015 #

Yes, thank you! I've edited it

silenteyes24336 07/31/2015 #

Silly question, would glittery washi tape be considered plain or do you just mean like solid plain colors?

Lolcw 07/31/2015 #

Plain solid colours. Also, I don't know about other people/places but glittery tape would be classed as deco tape and not washi tape.

I used football cards covered in packing tape to wrap my washi around. I cannot wait to see what kind of random tapes make it to my mailbox! =)

silenteyes24336 08/ 1/2015 #

@lolcw It rips like washi tape/paper tape. Is that still considered deco tape for this swap? Sorry for the silly questions, I just don't want to do anything wrong.

Lolcw 08/ 1/2015 #

If it rips like washi then I shall allow it. however, if its okay, could I ask that you check partners profile first to make sure they haven't written glitter/glitter tape as a dislike @silenteyes24336

silenteyes24336 08/ 1/2015 #

@lolcw absolutely. :) thank you. I have tons of washi, I was just curious about the glitter one because I had never seen glitter washi until Wednesday when I bought it. :) I try to always check profiles to make sure I'm not sending themes they hate, so that's not a problem! Thank you again.
