what are ATC's?

are they all 3.5x2.5?

Nancyrisk, ATC's are artists trading cards. They can be whatever you want to make them but there are 2 rules, the size and you may not sell them, hence the trading. There are lesser rules that are very loose and basically just preferences like using a nice sturdy card or paper and putting time and effort into making them. Also some like to put them in a sleeve or pocket before sending just to protect it while in transit. Maybe try google for some ideas but bottom oine is just have fun and make something you would be happy to receive.

Also can i take a card off a deck and use it as a base?

The intention of these cards was for people to obtain small art works and for artists to establish themselves without money involved but now it is just traded for fun, the history is actually quite interesting. You can sell these cards but then they are called something else and are not really ATCS in spirit.

The size is a rule because it is easy to store and sort of catagorises them for what they are, artist trading cards. There are other size crafts but they fall into catagories of inchies, twinchie, skinnies etc. You see the size is what makes it an ATC.

The size is 2.5x3.5 inches. If your playing cardsy are that size then you may use those. Be sure to put your information on the back such as name, date, country and that sort of stuff. People use all sorts of things for backings such as cereal boxes and all manner of things,

What if i think my atc are not good enough? They are my first ones..

What if i thalso 3d embellishments like flowrrs buttons etc is allowed?

Lihior, just have fun with it. We are all here for the enjoyment and accept that we are all on different levels. Just try your best and that will be enough. We all start somewhere. My best advice is use the medium you know whether is be collage, drawing oranything like that.

You may add embellishments but keep in mind the person you are sending to might want to store it in a folder or box and also remember that it has to be sent in the post so you dont want bits falling off or have to pay more than a regular small letter price.

When an ATC is sold, it's then known as an ACEO: "Artist Card(s) Editions & Originals". Lihor, good places to search for examples of ATCs is Flickr, Pinterest, a Google or Bing search probably comes up with good stuff, too. :) Nasreen, if you do this swap again, I would love to join then. I have too much going on between the signup and send dates for this one. Looks fun. I love my doll stamps.
