Description:

I loved doing this swap hosted by DeAnnaVarela, so much, that I asked her if we could make this a monthly series! So we will do these once a month, and by this time next year, you could have an entire book of deconstructed art journal pages.

I'm pretty much going to use her description of the swap, which is posted below, with a few points to add. The theme of these is going to be grunge / steampunk Halloween. Think Tim Holtz meets Tim Burton! There should be no cutesyness to these designs - metallics are certainly fine, but NO glitter anywhere, no sequins, no foam shapes, and stickers should be used minimally.

Here is the original description

Swap Information:

For this swap you will make one DeConstructed Art Journal (DAJ) page for one partner in the theme of “Creepy Cool". Creepy Cool means that the design should be dark, gothic, Poe-like in style, NOT cutesy Halloween. Please see the swap photo for example.

You may hand draw, hand paint, rubber stamp, use pastels, charcoal, ink, acrylic or watercolors, collage with found images, use various papers, napkins, book pages, music sheets, texture paste, stencils, thin fabric or fibers, etc. However, please do not use stickers unless they are for a small accent, high quality/3D and/or altered.

Please keep the DAJ page flat/slim as possible and do not attach bulky items as these will be bound into a book. Be sure to sign your work and include the name of the swap.

What is a DAJ you ask?

The idea behind DeConstructed Art Journaling is to create single pages to be bound into one art journal. This cuts cost and helps prevent loss of passing on entire journals for collaborative art work.

A DAJ Page is an 8” x 8” paper base folded in half. I recommend watercolor paper, heavy cardstock, cardstock covered with scrapbook paper, a recycled file folder, or paper bag doubled up in layers. Amazon and craft stores sell tablets of watercolor and cardstock paper precut to 8” x 8” or you may cut your own. All sides are covered with your original artwork.

There are many youtube videos for inspiration for deconstructed art journals, including these:
