WC ~ Ancestors Samhain 2021

For this swap, make something that represents your ancestors to you.

Samhain is the time of year we remember and honor our ancestors and our newly crossed-over loved ones.

Create something that reminds you of a particular ancestor, or something that represents your ancestral heritage or culture.

This is Sender's Choice, and is meant to be a personal representation. Think about these things, if you're stuck:

Do you have a coat-of-arms in your family?
Is there a particular ancestor you feel drawn to?
Do you feel drawn to a particular stone in connection with your heritage (for instance, an emerald to represent an Irish or 'Emerald Isle' connection)?
Is there a particular name that gets repeated through the generations in your family? (In my family, the girls have the name 'Prairie' for 5 generations)
Is there someone famous or infamous in your family?
Is there an heirloom that gets passed down through the generations? (Note: I am NOT asking you to send a family heirloom to your partner! A picture or drawing and a note about it is perfect.)
Is there a profession most of the people in your family follow?

Make something to represent your family. You can get started anytime.

Don't think this has to be elaborate. It can be anything from a collaged postcard to a family tree, or a picture of an ancestor. Anything, even if it's just a long 2 or 3 page letter about your family, as long as it's personal to you and your family.

Anything you choose to share is fine, the more "heart" you put into it, the better it will be, so please don't just write, "My family has been into oil since the 1800's" on a postcard and mail it. Put some effort, some emotion, into it.

PS.. I have to add this. Most of us (in America, at least) are a combination of many cultures, ethnicities, etc. If you choose to do a Sugar Skull, or any other cultural representation, then so be it.
I was told my whole life that I was part Cherokee on my mother's side. I love the Cherokee nation and was raised in that culture. By way of a DNA test, I have discovered I have no Native American DNA, after all. I still make a mandala with fur and feathers every year in the same style my mother made hers. I do it to honor her. I have been accused by people of cultural appropriation when they see a mandala on my wall. I just want to say, if you feel drawn to a certain culture and have respect for that culture, then by all means go for it. There will be NO cries of "cultural appropriation" in this swap.

This is meant to be a highly personal swap and NO ONE has the right to argue what is personal to you.

If you are worried about cultural appropriation and concerned you may receive a sugar skull made by a blonde haired, blue eyed woman living in Southern California, then maybe this swap is not for you. That woman may have been raised in the Mexican culture of her area. It's not for you, or anyone else, to decide what is personal to your partner.
