Description:

I'm going to have my vacation in July! What about you? At least a weekend outing, surely? It is rather common to send back postcards from wherever you have spent some fun time. Let's do the same! Of course, as this is a photography group, we'll make our own photo postcards.

You don't really need to travel in order to participate in this swap. Surely also your own corner of world has something that is worth to make a postcard of? Snap a tourist-y photo (or several, if you want to make a multiview card), put the name of the place (town, national park, zoo, whatever is most relevant) on front, and on back write a note about the place and your experience. Don't forget to put the swap name and your username somewhere as well.

You can have a photo printed the way you usually do and mount it to cardboard, or print directly to cardboard (but make sure it has good quality!), or even use a special postcard printing service. Make sure the size of your postcard is within limits of your country - a regular 10x15cm or 4"x6" is usually a safe way to go, but you can do some other format if you wish. The place name on front may be added before or after printing, just as you want, any way you want (including handwritten in a permanent marker, so you don't have to be any kind of tech savvy for this). You do not have to send your postcard while still in that place that you visited - I quite understand that during holiday is not when you want to worry about finding a photo shop in a strange town.

Please note that while "my parents in front of X" is definitely a touristy family photo, it is not suitable as a touristy postcard. People may be on background somewhere, though (for some tourist attractions it may be hard to take a photo without anyone wandering into it).

NB! The photo must be taken between July 1st and 31st this year. Earlier (or later) photos are not acceptable for this particular swap. You do get a week after the end of July to print and send your photo, so you should be able to make it even if it will be taken on last day of July.

To recap:

  • touristy photo(s) taken by you during July 2023
  • name of place on front
  • a note on the back
  • sent as a naked postcard
