How do you "seal" the shrinky dink? I have never heard of that. Thanks for answering.

Great question! You can spray on a clear acrylic coating, you can use resin, or even use nail polish! Just be wary--some sealers contain solvents that might "reconstitute" your art. For instance, I've had UV resin smear up Sharpie on a Shrinky Dink (I guess the chemicals in that resin sort of reconstituted the ink), so now I spray with a thin clear acrylic coating before topping off with resin.

Sealing is completely optional though--while they're going to be keychains, they're still pieces of art, and I'm sure everyone understands the risks of putting them on keys where they might get clacked around a bit!

To add--it's also helpful to do a test Shrinky Dink and see how your pens, markers, pencils, etc react to different coatings.

4X5 is way large for a keychain, please explain....

Sure! So, before you put your Shrinky Dink in the oven to shrink, it should be approximately 4x5 inches. When it shrinks, it will be much smaller and much more amenable to being a keychain!

I would also like to add---some people like to upcycle plastic containers to make shrink plastic art--that's totally fine also. I'm not sure which "type" of recycled plastic works (you would have to research it), but if it's what you're used to (not to mention it's cheaper than buying Shrinky Dink plastic sheets), go for it!

Shrinky Dink (brand) are made from #6 plastic, look for the recycle symbol on your coainer and if you see the 6 in the middle it is shrink plastic worthy

By the way--dimensional shrink art is fine too for keychains!! I'm a flat Shrinky Dink kind of girl and then I like to embellish it. By all means think outside the box, as long as the keychain pretty much resembles the "amount" you would get if you just made a flat Shrinky Dink.
