Description:

This swap had a great response when I hosted it in April so I thought I'd run another one....here are the original details & instructions...

Ok, here on Swap-Bot I see a lot of mention of ATC's (Artist Trading Cards). I had no idea what it was so I did a little research - and thought - hey, how bout' a swap for newbies like me who really don't know what they are doing but would love to get the experience and at least try! :)

For this swap you will only send 1 ATC to 1 partner since we're all still learning and I myself don't want to get overwhelmed! :)

Now, here's some details:

Artist trading cards are 2-1/2 x 3-1/2 inches, and should be flat enough to slide into a standard trading card sleeve.

The dimensions of the card must be 2.5 x 3.5 inches (64 x 89 mm). The back of the card typically includes the artist's signature, the date, and any other info you like to share. (Some artists like to make a personal calling card with a self portrait on the front and contact information and anything else they'd like to include on the back, to give out with their trades.)

Artist Trading Cards are typically made on a base of card stock. However, ATCs have been created on metal, stiffened fabric, plastic, clay, balsa wood, leather, embroidery canvas, acetate, heavy watercolor paper, and many other materials.

Various techniques are then applied to the chosen substrate: collage, textile arts, assemblage, digital art, calligraphy, beadwork, watercolors, rubber stamps, carved soft block stamps, pen and ink, colored pencil, airbrush, and many others.

Please message me if you have any questions at all!

Happy Swapping!

Additional notes from Monteverde1997 - Thanks!

There are several ways to send ATCs. First after making an ATC, I back it with an old playing card.(Like a deck of cards you play rummy with) Then I put another piece of paper on the back so that it looks nice. You are trying to make it durable. You can Use heavy duty cardstock to save you a step if you want.

On the back you can buy a stamp for ATCs or put the info on there yourself. Here is the usual info included on the back: (Your name, What you go by here on swap-bot, where you are from, name of the swap, Title of your ATC, the date it was made, and a line titled "Info" meaning how many ATCs did you make " 1 of 1" or "2 of 3" etc. Some people include their address and email information.

To send the ATC you can put it in between cereal box cardboard and put it in the envelope or just send it inside of a card. Sometimes people include a note describing the ATC or the technique used or that you read that persons profile and made it just for them. I have learned the hard way that sending it with out some kind of protection card, cardboard etc. could result in it being damaged. I also put on the outside of the envelope "non-machineable" which means that the envelope will need to be hand stamped by the post office and not run through their machine. This is an extra 20 cents but after having your hard work shredded in their machine it is worth it. For extra hearts you can send goodies for the reciever to use to make ATC of thier own..

Just signed my son up for a kids ATC swap after he came home with blank ATC cards from school. Thought maybe I should try my hand at ATC, too! This looks like a great one to start with!

KatyC 05/ 1/2009 #

Is there a theme this time around? Like last time the ATC had to have an animal on it? Thanks!

mystic69 05/ 4/2009 #

No theme - this is an open sender's choice ATC - it's much easier for newbies this way. It is nice though when you take some time and look at your partner's profile to see what kinds of colors and things they like but that's totally optional!

Have fun and be creative! :)

Just signed up for this swap. Never done this before .. Do I just wait for an address ? How do I get the address from the person I'm supposed to make the card for ? Thanks !

maestraw 05/19/2009 #

When the swap sign-up deadline passes, you will see a spot on the right to the information about the swap. That is where you can get your swap partner's name and address.

Moose 05/21/2009 #

Ah,ok. Thanks ! This is very exciting (yes, that's newbie talk ;-)

passionateaboutpaper 05/21/2009 #

great idea - I have never made an ATC before, just found out what an ATC was when a partner in a previous swap included one with the package sent to me. on watchlist for now

Maggie249 05/21/2009 #

just registered am waiting to hear how do i fill out the profile liek where is it? etc and i really want to join mmme and my friend here are new Atc makers and we are loving it thanks /maggie249

mystic69 05/22/2009 #

Hi Maggie, below the swap bot logo are links - one says "profile". When you click on that you'll see (I think over to the right) "Edit Profile". Fill out the blanks as fully as you can (take a look at some other swappers profiles to get an idea).

Keep in mind, to use swap-bot you must be 18 or older. As long as you meet that requirement and have a completed profile, you're in. Let me know if you have further questions.

Please add me to the list, this is my very first swap, so I may have questions Mystic. Your description and links in the description are so helpful, and Monteverde1997's notes explain alot too. Hugs,Caro

I can't wait!

tsneedfulthings 05/26/2009 #

May I join this swap?

mystic69 05/26/2009 #

It's not closing until the end of the day. I'll assign partners tomorrow. Anyone in good standing can join! :)

heidistitches 05/26/2009 #

Thanks for hosting this. I've known about ATCs for awhile but never felt brave enough to attempt one myself. This is a great opportunity to try it out...thanks!

mystic69 05/26/2009 #

I'm so glad everyone's joining this - ATC's are very easy, it's just making your first one that's intimidating. Once you do this swap, it will really break you in and you'll want to take part all the other ATC swaps! It's really fun & a great way to show creativity :)

chrisabella 05/26/2009 #

i just received an ATC from Heidi C. I asked around for someone to send me one so i can get a look for myself & it was SO PRETTY... i cant wait to make my own... this will be a cool swap...

san100 05/27/2009 #

san100 05/27/2009 #

rachwms 05/27/2009 #
