Do the things that we send have to be specific, like things with characters on them, or...?

Nope, its completely random. You can stuff it with whatever you want... just don't send garbage, useless or dirty stuff.

Ha ha, oh no, of course not! I just wanted to check, as I have a lot of fun/neat cards and postcards and the like, but they don't have a kawaii type character on them. So just want to make sure that such things are accepted in this type of swap.

@soxxbreathless Me too! I got the idea after seeing a ton of public swaps like this... but they are filled with newbies. Hundreds of newbies. I am excited to have one among this group of awesome swappers. :D

@girlpirate God, I know. I actually join in some of those and I have been lucky enough to receive good packages each time (last time it was my partner's first swap ever, but she did amazingly). But one within this group will be fantastic! I'm actually hosting one myself in another group (though sadly the standards there are not as high as here).
