Swap categories: Letters & Writing  Handmade  Paper Crafts
Number of people in swap:28
Location:International
Type:Type 3: Package or craft
Last day to signup/drop:April 18, 2010
Date items must be sent by:May 1, 2010
Number of swap partners:1
Description:

For this swap we will be making 5 handmade envelopes which we will send to one partner.

The envelopes must be handmade, you need to provide your partner with some way of securely sealing the envelopes (by putting double sided sticky tape on the envelopes, by providing stickers to secure the envelope, or by providing a glue stick or some deco tape) How you secure the envelopes is up to you - as long as it will keep the contents inside the envelope.

PLEASE NOTE: The envelopes need to be of a mailable size, 3.5" by 5" at least. Obviously; if you want to make other arrangements regarding the size of the envelopes that you make please make sure you agree them with your partner before the send date.

There are some beautiful examples of handmade envelopes on flickr - have a look, there's lots of ideas to help you.

The Legalities

We will send five envelopes to one partner, please include a card with your swap name.

This swap is international.

Newbies are welcome as long as you have 5 mailed and rated swaps under your belt, you must have a plumpsome profile too!

Extras are great but not at all necessary.

The swap is open to those with a rating of 4.8 and above.

If you don't intend to send then please don't join.

If you don't intend to send on time then please don't join.

If you don't intend to rate then please don't join.

My primary concern is the swapping experience of everyone in the swap, if I think you don't fit the bill then I won't allow you to join. If you think you have been rated unfairly then please tell me your tale and I will take it into consideration.

Should there be a requirement that all envelopes be mailable size? I know there are things like ATC envelopes, but I don't use those so I wouldn't know what to do with 5 of those envelopes.

Hi @papercrafter23 I have changed the requirements regarding the size of the envelopes you make and send.

MissiveMaven 04/12/2010 #

U.S. Mail allows envelopes to be mailed a letter rate at a minimum of 3.5x5 inches. A lot of my templates are that size - fully mailable, but a little under your 4x6 specification. I'm going to pull out of the swap and go back to watching it in hopes that you'll allow this size (which is mailable).

Traceyk 04/12/2010 #

Me too...I'm watching for now. My template is smaller, but definitely still mailable (have mailed many times, no problem). :)

Hey Guys!

I have altered the sizes so that your templates will fit. Hope to see you in the final swap.

Just something I would mention... Sometimes envelopes need to lined.. In other words.. Many calendar pictures just are (not thick enough) to withstand being mailed.. so they may need an added layer of paper. I received a beautiful calendar envelope yesterday for Alaska.. and it was a mess... paper was just too thin to make the trip... :D

One idea for sealing your envelopes is a special glue which comes in a roll on dispenser. I bought some recently but haven't tried it yet. All you have to do, if I remember correctly, is apply the glue to both sides of the envelope and let dry OPEN. When you're ready to mail the envelope, all you have to do is moisten it like a regular envelope, and then seal it. Can't wait to try it. HTH someone.

Re: the above - I have a similar product called Lick & Stick envelope glue. I use it on all my envelopes. You can use it wet as regular glue, or let it dry (on the top/final sealing flap) and then you just lick it (or remoisten it, however you like to do that) and then you can seal the envelope.
