Description:

ATC swap for artists! This Artist Trading Card swap is for pro artists only. You don't necessarily have to make money being an artist, but you should be a master or professional artist (or at least really good at artwork) to participate. You should be good at the medium you'll be working with to create the ATC. (Example: If you're going to be sending a watercolor painting ATC then you should be a watercolor artist to begin with.)

The idea here is not to exclude "untalented" people, I just thought it would be fun to have a swap between professional artists like myself. Don't worry if you're not a professional artist, I'll be hosting more fun swaps (for all experience levels) in the future.

Logistics:

  • For this swap you will make 1 standard size ATC for 1 partner.
  • The theme is sender's choice. You can come up with a theme on your own, or you can look through your partner's profile and use what you find to create the ATC.
  • You must have a rating of at least 4.5 or above to participate. No recent 1s, 2s, or 3s without a good explanation (send me a private message and I will review.)
  • Newbies are welcome (with a well filled out profile.)
  • Post any questions here, or send me (QueenQuill) a message directly and I will do my best to answer your questions promptly.

Does this include professional photographer artists? Or just artists that paint, draw etc.

iggygirl 04/20/2010 #

I'm really hoping to get some actual hand drawn/painted atc so I'm gonna wait to see what the answer is. No offense to photographers it is art but I really like the hand drawn/painted atc but 9 out of 10 atcs here aren't, so I'll just wait and see what the odds are I'll get a drawing in this one.

jringling 04/20/2010 #

Would I qualify as a "professional artist"?

Here's my work: www.creativeetching.etsy.com www.creativeetching.deviantart.com

KatarinaNavane 04/20/2010 #

I'm not a professional entirely (yet) but I am an art student, and a batch of my ATCs not only made it into the Undergrad Juried Exhibition (which is quite competitive) but won an award at it--would that count?

lefroggy 04/20/2010 #

would i be able to join.. i dont know what you are looking for in a "good artis" her is a link to my art work http://forsakenbutterfly.deviantart.com/

@druideye Photography is definitely an artistic medium. I'd actually be quite interested to see a photographic ATC; I've never seen one before. So feel free to join the swap!

@iggygirl The majority of people that will be joining the swap will be traditional artists (of the painting/drawing type), so I would say odds are pretty good that you'll receive an ATC in one of those mediums if you join. I'm with you in liking the hand drawn and painted ATCs which is one of the reasons I created this swap. I think you'll have a better chance of getting a hand drawn/painted ATC here than from other swaps.

@jringling You most definitely do qualify as a professional artist! Funny thing you ask; I just received an ATC from you in the mail yesterday for the celtic ATC swap, and I was absolutely floored (I plan on emailing you separately with my thanks). Your work is absolutely beautiful, and definitely professional! Technically one of the definitions of professional is being paid for something; so if you sell your work, you're definitely qualified as professional.

@KatarinaNavane It sounds like you'd definitely qualify for this swap. If you're a student of the arts, if you've been in any exibits (especially juried exhibitions), then you definitely qualify!

@lefroggy You're a great artist! I would say that if someone has their work up on Deviantart.com, then most likely they're a "good" artist. Very rarely have I ever seen anyone on Deviantart that I wouldn't qualify as a "good" artist.

I hope that answers everyone's questions! If there are anymore questions, please feel free to ask here, or message me privately, and I'll do my best to answer promptly!

Thanks @queenquill but I think I'll pass as I would hate to disappoint my partner if I happen to get one that wanted something hand drawn and I send them a photographic ATC especially since there's only one partner.

JChromosome 04/22/2010 #

Art is based on one's perception.....just cause one doesn't like it doesn't mean, someone else won't. I would hate to disappoint someone....work shouldn't have to be ok'd to join someone's swap!! Maybe next time.....

Bandeau 04/25/2010 #

I am joining the swap regardless but do have a question. Is digital art allowed? Many of the ATC's I sell are traditionally drawn then digitally colored. However if not I have no qualms about doing up a purely traditional card.

QueenQuill 04/27/2010 #

@druideye I'm sorry to hear that you're going to pass; I would have liked to see a photograph ATC. Maybe next time. Perhaps after this swap I'll make another swap with multiple partners but with the same parameters. That's a good idea!

@JChromosome I'm sorry you feel that way; I didn't mean to discriminate or leave people out, I just wanted to try something different for a swap. I appreciate the effort that people have put in all the ATCs that I have received, but I want to see what happens when I put out a call for professional artists to swap ATCs. If someone doesn't agree with the rules I've set, that's okay; they don't have to join. There are plenty of ATC swaps available for everyone!

@Bandeau Welcome to the swap! Digital art is definitely allowed, as long as it's your own. Some of the best artwork I've seen has been digitally manipulated. I myself just finished a Photoshop class that I took to learn how to apply more digital elements to my own artwork. So go ahead and use whatever medium suits you best.

Happy trading, everyone! <3

druideye & I decided to do a Private Photo Portrait Post Card swap, my 18 yr old daughter is quite the artist (I have talent in calligraphy, embossing, photography) & I photograph her artwork & use it in many of my ATCs & PostCards, I also use alot of my photography of tother things in my crafts, mailed druideye 2 Photo Portrait Postcards since I could not decide on just 1 to mail to her

QueenQuill 05/ 6/2010 #

I've gone ahead and extended the "send by" date another week. Be sure to get your ATCs out by May 19th! Yay! I'm so excited to see what you guys come up with!

QueenQuill 05/ 6/2010 #

By request I've also extended the signup date by a few days to let in a couple of artists that I've approved of.

I've also gone through and checked out everyone that has signed up for the swap, and everyone looks great! Great ratings, and it looks like we've got some absolutely amazing artists! I'm stoked to see so many professionals involved in this swap, and am really looking forward to seeing all the artwork we all come up with!

So be sure to take photos/scans of your artwork to post for the rest of us to see! I'll be happy to host the photos and post them to a blog or photo album for everyone to view. Please send pictures of your work to me at QueenQuill@gmail.com as you make them, and I'll get working on a place for everyone to view the artwork!

QueenQuill 05/12/2010 #

Partners have been assigned...sorry it took me so long to do it...I'm new to hosting swaps and totally spaced out that I had to assign partners. Because of this delay, I've gone ahead and extended the deadline to the end of the month so that you have enough time to create an ATC specific to your partner if you choose to do so. Sorry for any inconvenience! Happy swapping!

PariahPoet 05/31/2010 #

This one was great, would love to do it again!
