Description:

It should read salvaged GREATS, as most of the things we throw out have an infinite amount of life, use, purpose, beauty, etc. left in them.

Lets give some garbage a new lease on life shall we?

For this swap make 1 (one) bookmark for 1 (one) partner.

Use anything that was destined to be trashed or forgotten about. The pizza box from last night. Last week's magazine. The Christmas stickers you received when you specifically requested "no Christmas stickers". The elastic band from your broccoli. The price sticker from the fabulous gift you bought me for creating such a great swap..?...alright, Im done...almost.

Now for the bleh. Newbies not only welcome, but encouraged (fill out your profile, it's more fun for your partner!). No unexplained 1's or 3's (PM me if there's an issue). 4.8+ or higher. This is not a requirement, but out of courtesy, you may want to check your partners profile for likes/dislikes...example: don't send someone an all pink bookmark if they hate pink. P.S - I hate pink.

Message me with any questions. Have fun!

rubyhousesliprs 04/29/2010 #

Pink is awesome!!! lol

SamitySam 04/29/2010 #

...as long as it's at your house and not mine!...:P

MistyPup50 04/29/2010 #

I love recycled stuff as well. I'm ok with any colour. I look forward to seeing someone else's creativity in action!! lol.

SamitySam 04/29/2010 #

...alright...I take it back...kind of...I just got fabulous underwear in the mail (panties swap), and they were pink AND fabulous...who knew?..;)

papercaper 04/29/2010 #

Oh, a bad council clean-up 'made me' do irrational things... like throwing out an amazingly hefty & layered, printed & ink-stamped mailing tag from a huge sack from the US (that's what she said). Knew I wanted to keep it for recycling. Gaaahhh! Not to worry. More cool stuff in its place. :)

CraftyTweetie 04/30/2010 #

Oooooohhh! I love making stuff from "Trashy Treasures"! It's great for both the environment and our wallets/pocketbook! :) BTW, did you ever notice the neat patterns printed for security/privacy on the inside of many envelopes? I've been saving them for awhile and have accumulated quite a collection of different patterns. They can be used as is or colored in with markers and colored pencils. I just used one this week to make a handmade envelope for another swap. All you have to do is carefully open up the envelope so you can turn it inside out. Waalaa...free crafting paper! HTH!

SamitySam 04/30/2010 #

@CraftyTweetie What a great idea! Im going to have to try that...anything thats great for the environment, and our wallets is fantastic in my book...thanks for joining, and hope you have fun!

glennasgarden 05/ 3/2010 #

I always save my envelopes...I will have to check them! Very nice idea!

MommyKnows 05/ 5/2010 #

ooooooooh! CraftyTweetie just gave me a really cool idea for a bookmark! Now I'm in!

miissc 05/ 5/2010 #

My bookmark is done!! hopefully it will go well to whomever I get as a swap partner! If not I will gladly eep it for myself and make another one. This was such a fun and creative idea!!

blazespirit 05/ 6/2010 #

@CraftyTweetie What a great idea, I'll have to keep an eye on envelopes I receive.

I know I save postage stamps and when envelopes have designs or whatnot on them, I always save them for collage material. I am really excited about this swap. I think I might end up using the fire extinguisher inspection tags I found. They were just throwing them out! I couldn't resist.

LinketJewelryDesign 05/ 6/2010 #

Can it be fabric from a damaged shirt or something like that?

SamitySam 05/ 6/2010 #

@linketjewelrydesign it can be made from anything that "was destined to be trashed or forgotten about" Have fun with it! I made a joke with someone the other day about this swap - that it would be funny if I got a bookmark made from a picture of someones ex...haha!

marthy 05/ 6/2010 #

Thanks for welcoming newbies! I'm not new to mailart, only to swap-bot...loving it! All the ideas here are wonderful!! I'm going to try and use an assortment of salvaged treasures, most likely w/ a backing from...yes, an old pizza box!

aubreysmom 05/ 6/2010 #

Glad to see this swap. I was in one similar "The upcycled bookmark project" a while back and got flaked on ( by the coordinator no less)! So, I never got to see what other people were doing with their "trashy treasures". Can't wait!

atlantian 05/ 6/2010 #

So happy I found this swap. I'm way into reusing whatever I can. Can't wait to swap. Also I would love to angel that flake that aubreysmom had. I'm just so upset that a coordinator would do such a thing. Please pm me abreysmom so we can make this right.

glennasgarden 05/ 7/2010 #

LOL the someones ex idea!

SamitySam 05/ 7/2010 #

Just checking in...Im happy everyone is so excited about this swap! Flakers make me all sad in the face...especially coordinator flakers. However, thanks to people like atlantian, swap-bot remains an awesome swapping outlet, despite the odd flaking shananagin. Thanks atlantian!

aubreysmom 05/ 7/2010 #

I pm'ed atlantian but wanted to add a bit more explanation about the flakey swap ....I guess I should have stated that I was in contact with the coordinator one time and she thought it could have been lost in the mail and could resend but then that was the end of it...never heard or saw anything more. I never know who should chase who in these situations but since she was the coordinator! I thought she would make good on it! So, I let it slide on my end also I guess. (Maybe it wasn't a true flake?) It wasn't a swap with any monetary value so I wasn't as worried about it but it was just the fact of the matter. Glad to know there are wonderful people like atlantian that try to keep swap-bot the wonderful place it was meant to be.

marthy 05/ 7/2010 #

...terrific! I've got two done...found my pizza box a bit thick, so I used tissue box instead...along with magazine pages, cancelled stamps, patterned edges from a subscription card, bits of paper used as paint palette etc. I may not be able to stop...uh oh...

SamitySam 05/ 7/2010 #

...fabulous! - good to see everyone having fun with this swap!

CraftyTweetie 05/ 7/2010 #

I live in what's called "Pennsylvania Dutch Country" where we are notorious for not being able to throw anything away. Never know when it might someday come in handy! For example, if Mom and I REALLY want to clean, we'll do so when we know my grandma won't pop in, otherwise she'll retrieve half of what we throw away! LOL! :)

17Papergoddess 05/ 8/2010 #

It's hard having an artistic nature-- you see potential in everything & soon become a 'clutter magnet'. Since I work in a mailroom, I've been saving envelope linings for years! ....and using them- not as wallpaper but projects like this:) Do we have to stop at one bookmark? lol. I will send my partner a variety :) Looks like a good turnout for the swap looking at the numbers-- kudos!

SamitySam 05/ 8/2010 #

@17Papergoddess The turnout has been fantastic - I had no idea it would be such a big hit. Keep your eyes open for "Salvaged Goods Bookmark #2" Swap...I am notorious for having more than one book on the go, so there is no such thing as too many bookmarks...and anything up/re cycled/used is always fabulous in my book...:)

@CraftyTweetie Around here we have a "spring cleanup" where people put things out at the curb that they no longer want..it ranges from furniture/appliances/dishes/gardening/decore ...anyway, the garbage trucks come and pick it up, but usually not until a few of us hoarders go through everything...lol.
