Description:

This PC Swap is a kickoff to the 2010-2011 school year. I am a 4th Grade Literacy Teacher and wanted to kick off the school year with some postal love for you and my students. The idea sprung from Whiffofjif’s Postcard Swaparoo (thanks for the help Whiffofjif!).

For this swap you will send 1 postcard to a 4th grade student (age 9-10) at Sixth Avenue Elementary and 1 postcard to your assigned partner.

The good stuff: Your PC to the kids and your partner can be related to reading and writing (ex. your favorite book, favorite genre, poem etc.) or about where you live on this beautiful earth. Anything kid friendly is a go. PC’s can be handmade, store bought or whatever you think the students and your partner will enjoy.

In return my students will design and decorate PC’s to those who join the swap and sent by yours truly. I know that they will love getting PC’s from all over the world.

Requirements and rating etiquette: Anyone with a rating of 4.7 or higher may participate.

5: I got my stuff and it met posted swap requirements 3: I got my stuff, but it didn't meet the posted swap requirements 1: I never got anything Keep in mind that you are NOT rating your partners on whether or not you liked what you received, only on if it met the requirements of the swap.

Quick Review: For this swap, send two (2) postcards - one (1) to your Swap-bot partner and one (1) to:

6th Ave. Elem. c/o Karmin Braun 560 Vaughn St. Aurora, CO 80011 USA

Please add your Swap-bot name to the PC at the school it will make life easier for me when I send a PC back from the student. Thank you to all who decide to join. This is my first time hosting. If you have a question or see a glaring error please contact me right away. Happy swapping!

I'm watching for now. What a great idea! I wish I would have thought about somthing like this when I was teaching!

Hi Karmin,

I have written out two postcards for your students and will post those today, even if you choose not to include me in your swap. It sometimes takes a long time for postcards to arrive from New Zealand. (I think this is a great idea and participated in the Swaparoo.) It is wonderful to see a teacher such as yourself willing to extend her students, well done.

Ladies, thank you for all the positive feedback! I dig it. @kay of course you are included. Thank you for being so thoughtful and sending the PC's now. I am sure I'll have a few students who will want to write more than one especially if they are heading to New Zealand.

This is so awesome! My daughter is going into 4th grade this year, too! I'm sending the card to the school today!

Kay 07/28/2010 #

I don't mind if I don't receive any return pcs, I just think it is a great project.

karminandrea 07/28/2010 #

@shabbypink123 thanks so much! I've been a 5th grade teacher for the last six years so I am excited to try out a 'new' age :) @kay you are too kind.

francess135 07/29/2010 #

are newbies welcomed? :)

karminandrea 07/29/2010 #

@francess135 - of course. Newbies have to start somewhere and I will angel if need be :)

Kay 07/30/2010 #

No, I am not kind, I am evilly planting the seed of addiction to postcards in youngsters. Than maybe when I am really old there will be young adults who like handwritten mail, especially postcards, as much as I do. Don't get me wrong, I am umbilically attached to my computer but the cord is long enough to reach the mailbox. Lol.

On Friday the first PC arrived at my school! Thank you ShabbyPink123. The first day with students is Wednesday. I am looking forward to this cool project!

EssHaych 08/ 2/2010 #

Signed up! This is my first swap - I'm really excited!

karminandrea 08/ 2/2010 #

Welcome @EssHaych I am glad you joined!

leighlo 08/ 2/2010 #

I live in North Carolina. I am loving these swaps to the schools. I can just imagine the kids faces when they receive the cards. I just stocked up on some new ones of the Great Smoky Mountains.

It is so hard to find "tourist" type postcards around here! T'll spend the week and weekend looking for some "Fall in new England" cards, but I'm not sure where else to look...

Filpot 08/ 3/2010 #

I love these! I forgot to sign up for the Swaparoo, but sent the postcards to the library anyway. I hope your students will enjoy some postcards from France!

karminandrea 08/ 4/2010 #

Thank you everyone for signing up! I just had my first day with students. It is going to be a great year!

Missysmom 08/ 6/2010 #

Wow- are you already back at school? How does this school year work? Our kids are not in until after the long weekend in Sept. (Canada- B.C.)

karminandrea 08/ 6/2010 #

@missysmom yes, we are back. We get out around the 2nd or 3rd week of May. It evens out on the most part. I assume your kids are in class until June? Nonetheless, I've been getting PCs in my mailbox everyday they are excited. I will send a picture of the bulletin we are creating too :)

Please let me know if you need more cards so all of the kids get at least one. :) This is so much fun. Knowing a child will smile from getting a card. Thanks for creating this swap.

karminandrea 08/ 9/2010 #

@leighlo I do have enough for every student right now with a little wiggle room in case I get a new student. If not I have a couple students already asking if they can write more than one. It has been a lot of fun hosting.

KarlaKC 08/26/2010 #

Did I understand that we will be getting a postcard from the school, too? I've sent to the school and my partner and have received from a partner but not the school. Just checking as I'm archiving my totally completed swaps.

KarlaKC 10/ 2/2010 #

Thank you! Got a postcard from a student Johanna who loves Arizona!

leighlo 10/ 2/2010 #

Thanks a bunch! I just got my card from Michelle in Colorado. This was a cool swap!
