Description:
This will be a quick and easy swap. Make your partners AT LEAST 4 Tim Holtz style bottle cap magnets. You can find bottle caps at Archivers for sure and probably at several of the other craft stores. Or you can use real bottle caps (be sure they are the twist off kind -- NOT the pry off kind). You can find magnets and magnet sheets at the craft stores and probably at office supply stores. I cut my image and glue it in the bottle cap. I then use a nice layer of glossy accents (into which I often embed additional elements). I also use a drop of glossy accents to attach the magnet to the back. I know some people cover their image with 2-3 thin layers of UTEE. You whichever method you prefer. You will have 2 partners (so you need to make at least 8 magnets) If you have any questions or problems please PM me. I will be posting a new technique swap early next week! :)

I found magnet strips really cheap at Walmart. They were in the kids craft area. I think they were only a dollar. This should be fun!!

haha....I just LOVE a swap that requires us to drink! I have two bottle caps now...and will watch until I have the required 8....GREAT SWAP Idea!

If you want to make bigger fancier magnets KellyS says that Snapple lids and lids off from the Starbucks froufy coffee bottles work well (coffees that come in four little bottles from the unrefrigerated coffee section in the grocery stores.)

I have a question (since I have never seen one of these)....is it "ok" that the images are recessed or should they be flush with the rim?

The images will still probably be recessed a bit (using either UTEE or glossy accents). You just want them sealed in there somehow so that they stay clean and intact.

Another resource for caps is your local beer brewery supply store. The price on these is way better than you will see at Archivers, but they do have the little rubber seals inside them. Last time I went in they gave me a bunch of bulk ones for free as they were not going to sell them this way anymore.

I attempted to use the utee...but since I do not have the melting pot I need to melt it in layers using the first layer with the embossing ink- and found I was all thumbs trying to work with it as the bottle cap itself gets VERY hot.

That's why I use glossy accents. It takes a while to dry but it very easy to work with. By the way TurtleLove if you Google "bottlecap magnet" you will see a gizillion examples. I didn't want to post pics of mine here and spoil it for my partners.

@TurtleLove ... I made a bottle cap magnet the other day and used UTEE and melted it in the oven. Fill the bottle cap almost to the top with UTEE and stand on a baking tray in the oven until it melts!
