About Me

Have always been interested in art starting with drawing as soon as I could hold a crayon. Have taken drawing and painting and 2-D art classes at my local University and also as an undergraduate 25 years ago (OMG). So any art-related supplies, pencils, pastels, paper, journaling pens, etc. are great ideas if someone wants to swap one on one, let me know. Especially if you want art books. I have a few drawing and painting books I would be happy to pass along.

I am a cave explorer but I don't have any items that I would trade yet; I need all my equipment! However if anyone wants to send me any cave-related postcards, old ones. Or gloves, AA batteries, wool or polypro socks (new or used as long as in good condition), I always need them as they all wear out. :)

I like digital photography and my favorite things to photograph are old barns, landscapes, still lifes, close-ups of all kinds.

I ride a motorcycle (1982 Kawasaki KZ 440 cc); got any bandanas I might like, or bad-ass t-shirts? :)

I enjoy writing poetry and used to do a blog on Yahoo 360 but haven't kept it up-to-date in a long time. If anyone wants to read my old posts to get to know me, it's found at http://360.yahoo.com/gamflin2day

Favorite Music

Eclectic taste in music...I enjoy classical music when I'm driving or sometimes while working. When I'm working out I listen to all kinds of rock. For just every-day listening I'm usually downloading alternative but also enjoy jazz, folk, blues, rock. I use iTunes as my daughter gave me a classic little 4 GB iPod this year for Christmas, to replace my Apple Shuffle, which I use when I work out. This one can also store photos and videos, so I've been having a lot of fun playing and replaying the video of my first tandem skydive on it.

Favorite Books

I started out as a reader....my favorite book was the dictionary when I was in elementary school! I loved learning new words, and I'm a pretty good speller as a result. :)
In general I enjoy reading travel anthologies, adventure, historical fiction and historical research, anything by Simon Winchester or Bill Bryson. Poetry of Billy Collins but also the classics. For just plain browsing, I love decorating books and magazines and art related magazines.

Favorite Crafts

Collage: any "found" materials are fantastic, especially if they are old or unusual; postcards and photos are great;unusual or old stamps, cigar boxes, matchbooks or matchboxes (matches can be discarded before mailing the box!), any antique advertising items.

Drawing: I like to draw and have taken drawing and painting classes, but have never spent enough time at it. Hopefully will be able to get back into it someday.

Favorite Crafts

Sock Dolls: I'm interested in making sock dolls so any new socks, especially interesting designs, but not loose weave or thickly knitted, are desired. Knee length socks or ankle socks will do. I love the ones with different color heels on them, stripes, polka dots, and all colors too. Also could use upholstery thread, especially white or light colors, and black and red. I could use buttons of all shapes and sizes. Fabric marking pens, especially if they are erasable.

A Few Good Things

I noticed other people put a lot more on their profile, so, I'll list here all kinds of things that I think are good in my life:

A man I love, to grow old with. I finally found him.

My daughter and soon-to-be-granddaughter!

Beyond those two awesome things, the following "little" things make life fun:

My laptop, I'm on it constantly.

Music of all kinds, &, My new iPod, it goes with me everywhere.

Cave exploring. I love exploring underground.

Sky diving -- can't wait to do it again!

Motorcycles -- loving the ride, and being able to connect with my older brother now that we have something in common.

Sock dolls, they make me smile

Reading (see above)

Eating! My significant other is a cook of chef quality and I love to reap the benefits. He's also teaching me how to cook. This month I made scalloped potatoes and also roasted onions with a brown sugar sauce, they were awesome.

Chocolate: I learned to enjoy dark chocolate and now I almost prefer it over milk chocolate. Plus dark chocolate is actually good for you!

Fruit: yum, I could live on fruit of all kinds.

Wine: love a glass of red wine daily, especially Australian Shiraz, and a Californian red wine called "The Smoking Loon."

Warm clothes from the dryer.

The smell of freshly mown grass in the summer.

The smell of wood smoke coming from the chimney.

Photographs, especially old ones of family.

Camping and hiking.

The colors blue&brown, and earth tones.

Book stores. I love browsing through books and sitting down with a cup of tea in a cafe to look over my purchases.

Vanilla flavored tea.

Biscotti, especially almond.

Cheeses of all kinds. Who doesn't like cheese?

Fresh grapes in the fall. My dad used to grow them and I really miss that smell.

Childhood toys: etch-a-sketch, Spyrograph, Lite Brite, marbles, Lincoln Logs, (I'm starting to sound old here), and my favorite radio from when I was a pre-teen, a Panasonic that was red, and was circular in shape, so I could put it over my arm.

Thanks for reading! If you have common interests, email me!
