Favorite Crafts

I am rather a love all of crafts. I've done scrapbooking, lampwork bead making, assemblage, altered art, drawing, tattoos, pen and ink, pastel, ATCs, acrylic and watercolor, leather work, costuming, jewelry making, cards, photography and just recently bought a screen printing kit.

Favorite Music

I enjoy hodge podge blending of different musical elements. Love cultural New Age and Folk blends. Love Blues. I grew Punk and lived on Industrial Rock in high school. Eventually fell into Electronica and presently enjoy a mix of House, Trap and Dubstep in addition to Delta Blues, Electronica and cultural music. I am open to most genres except Rap and Hiphop though I am very much a Ruary fan at the moment. That kid is the exception!

Favorite Books

I love books! I think my fav. books would have to be the Tao Te Ching and the Book of Hopi, Man's Search for Meaning. I do a lot of reading on Celtic History so there is an extended list there along with many philosophy books from Plato and Netzche. I am presently reading Vegetable, Animal, Miracle. Awesome book. Really getting into Curio Wonder Cabinet's so vintage nature study books are awesome- typcially those with prints. I also enjoy many ancient history cultures in addition to Celtic like Egyptian, Roman, Native American, Viking, Chinese, ect. Theology.

About Me

Well, there's allot to me:

I am a single mom with 3 boys who lives in a historic home in a small town. We tend to be doers and it's my mission to introduce my kids to the world one outing and one museum at a time. Our interests have no bounds.

I am a contract archaeologist and a Etsy shop owner.

I love collecting from the Victorian and Art Nouveau periods and my house is a tribute to those periods in addition to my love of curiosity cabinets.

I am a big big researcher and have amassed a very extensive library with focuses on Native American, Roman, and Celtic history in addition to philosophy, theology and art history. My research papers are published on Academia.edu with subjects covering Celtic foods, beads and costume which supports my historical reenactment as a 500 BC Celtic persona.

I collect antique apothocary pre-1930s. Love quackery. I also LOVE ephemera and old books and have a massive collection of these things as well. Enjoy the anthropological understanding of how other times and cultures viewed and handled death so subjects like Victorian mourning photography and burial costumes interest me.

I metal detect and hunt arrow heads (mainly work related at this point). Love photography for which my middle child has excelled and started me on. My collection of subjects in this field tend to lean towards nature and dystopia.

I am a avid jewelry craft combining natural, cultural and historical elements into statement and treasure necklaces and bracelets that reflect my vast interests. Check out my store.

What I get passionate about

*Archaeology, history, philosophy, psychology *Victorian, Art Nouveau, and Pre-Raphaelite movements. *Mexican, Egyptian, Celtic, Roman, Viking and indigenous peoples’ art. Cultural and Religious items and art. Day of the Dead, Catholic, Native American, Celtic, Roman, Egyptian, Viking, Chinese, early civilization, historical. *Steam Punk, didn't even know there was a name to the stuff I liked untill Heatherlayne started a Steam Punk swap. It's like the best of both my punk past mixed up with my new vintage interests! * Ephemera!!! Antiques. Old pharmaceutical items (bottles, boxes, labels ect), vintage labels, vintage domestic items. Our house is decorated in Victorian and 1920’s-30’s era so any help would be appreciated. *Nature and animals- all of it! *Anything Glass- I am fascinated by glass and its uses. I've researched the history of glass and also work with it. Beads, dishes, marbles, jewelry, ect. *Unusual paper- marbled, flocked, hand made, recycled ect. *scrap booking, card and matchbox making, and ATC supplies *Butterflies and beetles- I love insects! I actually collect them, end of life however. No killing here! *Wolves, Dolphins, Hawks, Owls, Hedgehogs, Octopus/Cuddlefish and Squids, Snakes and of recently, Elk! LOVE them! *Imported and forign foods and candy. Love trying new things with the family. *Rocks and rock hounding, LOVE fossils. *Macabre, Gothic and Dark stuff. Not serial killer or morbid! *Favorite smells would include exotic and foreign scents such as Frankincense, Myrrh, Ylang ylang, and Dragon's Blood. Green Tea, Peach, Honey, I don't care much for incense esp. Nag Champa which gives me headaches. What I am looking for at the moment:

Day of the Dead

Victorian

Cute vintage birds

Ephemera

Vintage pharmaceutical items, labels

Domestic vintage antiques

Old Crackerjack/ Gum ball charms

Cute button pins

Unusual paper

Catholic, Voodoo, Curanderismo (fasinated by the cultural aspects and how they mingle with Christianity)

Cultural items, charms, jewelry, paper items, ect.

Special thanks to the following angels:

Thanks to Swan for angeling the Children's Scavanger Swap for my boys.

Dislikes

II do actually do have some dislikes: Disney

Plastic unless its vintage or having to do with scrap booking. This includes beads and jewelry.

Famous people- don't care about them except the occasional movie.

Sewing, knitting, needle work- I love receiving but don't do any of them myself unless it's historical costuming.

Barbie- I hate her. She sucks as a role model and that goes for all the other dolls similar to her now. I've never been a fan of dolls unless it's frozen charlotte dolls or vintage china dolls.

Romance Novels, Girly and Beauty Mags. I suspect Martha might be my exception. She has a few cute things in hers.

Make up and beauty, clothes shopping, most girly stuff. I am a tom boy and would rather be out hiking than shopping. It's just not me. I do like pre-1940s beauty stuff, but not for personal use

Mean people. I don't understand why or how folks can be mean, rude or uncaring.

Comment: This is really cool! Thank you. Your computer difficulties though are exactly why I laid mine out the old fashioned way with scissors and glue, then took a photocopier to it. I hate dealing with frustrating computer stuff like that. Thanks again!
Response: Glade you enjoyed it and thanks for waiting.

Comment: Awesome package! Very fun stuff. I particularly like the medical stuff actually and I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one if you decided to put things like that in your etsy. Thank you very much!
Response: Thanks for the great feedback. Still undecided on the Etsy posting. Actually looking into selling digital images on line. I have a rare book store on Etsy, Thedustytome where I have stashed many of my great boxes with a lot of excellent images which mainly have exceeded their copyright sooo, maybe selling the images might be more profitable than selling the books themselves? Just a thought. :D

Comment: Wow! What an essay, Heather! You are so very insightful and intelligent! Alot of what you wrote reminded me of my dad who was a philosopher and journalist. Unfortunately, I do not have the brain capacity to take in all that you wrote but I feel I've learned something of great value. Funny, too, because my rendition of this assignment is basically a complaint that there is too much suffering in this world! You are an amazing person, Heather! Very admirable! Thank you so much for your thoughts and sharing them with the rest of us.
Response: Maybe that's a great benefit from this assignment, that we can get new insights that can help us ourselves learn, grow, enjoy life ect. I enjoyed the ability to do it but worried about offending someone. Glad you liked it.

Thank you for the generous package of quilting fabrics. I'm not an expert but I think they are truly vintage, probably before 1950, maybe '40s, which I'm guessing from both colors and patterns. I've neer made a vintage quilt per se but this is enough to inspire me. Thanks a lot..
