About Me

Hello everyone!

My name is Cheryl. I live in Singapore and am 26 this year. I used to work mainly with dioramas and photography, but I have put that aside for now and am in the midst of getting a webstore up selling handcrafted everyday goods! Currently, I'm also working as an artist and I run art workshops. You can find out more about me on my website: www.mignon.com.

I love the arts, mixed media, illustrating, sewing, crafting, vintage toys, fabrics with silly prints, miniature worlds (dioramas!), doll houses and anything quirky. I am also a huge advocate of the DIY culture!

More things about me

I'm in love with the retro-futuristic style. If you have seen the movie 'Her', that's what I'm digging!

I love a good rainy day where I can snuggle up with my pillows and blanket, read a good book and feel safe. Although most people probably think snuggie blankets are ridiculous, but, I would love to get one of them some day.

I love backpacks more than shoulder bags or tote bags. This is mainly because I carry a truckload of things when I head out the door. I almost always have a camera in my bag whether it's an instant, film or digital. Or a book in there as well, for my long journeys on the train. My absolute craves are for satchel backpacks. Ironically, I love sewing tote bags and getting creative with them.

I like paper crafts especially those in 3D or are interactive. I'm always fascinated by how much one can do with paper! Mini little dioramas crafted by paper will always make my day! I used to love reading books on mrs pepperpot when I was a young kid, I've always wanted to be able to shrink and be tiny so I could go on all sorts of adventures! Some of my favourite paper craft artists are peter callesen, rob ryan, beatrice coron and cybele young.

I love collecting quotes, especially ones that are metaphorical. I write them down in a book and go through them when I'm upset or bothered by something.

I appreciate anything handmade. I have always been making things for people as presents and sometimes would like it if my friends would do the same. I love handmade puppets, probably because I'm in love with theater and broadway. Handmade > Store bought! :-)

My comfort food - Mac and cheese! I'm a huge fan of cheese and potatoes. It's silly, but I couldn't live without eating a cheese or potato type of meal in a week!

I prefer tin toys or wooden toys over stuffed ones. I love vintage toys, matryoshka dolls and rement miniatures, I like a family of toys. I find one toy alone pretty lonely and usually would prefer if it had a family to go along with it. Although, I have to admit (embarrassingly), I'm a huge fan of Mr. Potato Head.

I'm a very spontaneous person and love being a free spirit. I most often cannot have a fixed schedule or routine as I feel it takes away my imagination and creative streak.

I have been writing to international pen friends since I was 10. So, please write me something if you can! I love collecting letters from all over the world. :-)

Favorite Movies

I love watching movies. My favourite film director would have to be Wes Anderson. I would die to be part of his sets!

I kinda like Spike Jones too!

Favourite Musicians

The Shins, The Smiths, Camera Obscura, Noah and the whale, Sophie Madeleine, Jack Johnson, Kings of Convenience, DeVotchKa, Royksopp, Air, Stars

I'm usually drawn to ambient or indie pop, folk, acoustic, electronic and sometimes gypsy (hehe)!

I'm trying to play the ukulele now, so anyone who would like to share chords or uke musicians, please do!

Photographers that inspire me!

Laurie Simmons, Loretta Lux, Vee Speers, Alessandra Sanguinetti, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Sandy Skoglund, Slinkachu, Lori Nix

Favourite Author

Haruki Murakami

Favourite Quote

"Sometimes fate is like a small sandstorm that keeps changing directions. You change direction but the sandstorm chases you. You turn again, but the storm adjusts. Over and over you play this out, like some ominous dance with death just before dawn. Why? Because this storm isn't something that blew in from far away, something that has nothing to do with you. This storm is you. Something inside of you. So all you can do is give in to it, step right inside the storm, closing your eyes and plugging up your ears so the sand doesn't get in, and walk through it, step by step. There's no sun there, no moon, no direction, no sense of time. Just fine white sand swirling up into the sky like pulverized bones. That's the kind of sandstorm you need to imagine.

An you really will have to make it through that violent, metaphysical, symbolic storm. No matter how metaphysical or symbolic it might be, make no mistake about it: it will cut through flesh like a thousand razor blades. People will bleed there, and you will bleed too. Hot, red blood. You'll catch that blood in your hands, your own blood and the blood of others.

And once the storm is over you won't remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won't even be sure, in fact, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm you won't be the same person who walked in. That's what this storm's all about."

— Haruki Murakami (Kafka on the Shore)

Shipping/Rating

I always ship by air mail and would opt for registered mail if the items I send are costly/handmade/fragile.

Based on my past experience, mail from Singapore tends to reach 12 to 14 days after I've posted them. For Asian countries, it would be around 6 days.

If the parcel is too heavy or items cost a lot, I would ship by surface mail. It would take close to 10 to 17 weeks.

I always rate every swap almost immediately after I have gotten them. If you do not get my swap after a certain period of time, please email me and I will resend (do allow at least a week). Likewise, I will do the same should I not receive items from you many weeks after the deadline.

If you are unable to meet the swap deadline, just let me know, I wouldn't bite! We can always work something out!

I'm sure everyone would love a happy swapping experience here, so let's try to be as nice and patient with each other! :-)

I have the three cat collars on kittens already. The dogs got one of the treats after we did dog wrestling today. It was ear, nails and laxiare day at our house. We decided to wait on the dog collars until they get a bath next. After wrestling 6 cats and 2 dogs, the baths are waiting until tomorrow. THANKS!
