Such trauma will force you to re-think who you are and what it is you could do to ease the pain. No longer is money and possessions important. It is love and family and stability and trust and comfort. Thank you for sharing this story. Though it is so very, very sad, there is a great feeling of hope in your words. Because you can not continue to live the same life after such an event. You can TRY but I think ultimately you will fail. So I applaud your father!
