Alphabet Inch by Inch - A, B and C

Ooh, I like the idea of this one, but don't want to get stretched out doing three inchies per swap forever, plus the added postage of that many swaps--I know that 12 can fit in a notecard,(for 42 cents postage) so I'd rather do a lot that a little.

Sorry for whining, but I really do like the idea of this swap, but can't join this time around. Maybe later another one will be offered with more per swap?

I get overwhelmed when I have too many too many letters at once. If I do 3-4 inchies at a time, the postage will be, at the most, $1.88 per swap (that would be two international partners), with about 7 swaps total...$13.14. A lot higher than if there were only 3 swaps at $1.88, but I rather not stress about the art and enjoy the swap, even if it costs me a bit more.

I've only made a couple of inchies - I find the small scale really difficult, I think because I try to include too much! A letter of the alphabet will provide the perfect focus!

What a great idea for a swap and I'd love to join but I also can not afford the high postage, especially considering it is international. My suggestion is . . . since you don't want to be stressed with doing more than 6-8 inchies at a time . . . how about 6 inchies (abcdef) to 1 partner. You would be doing the same total # but saving a lot on postage. I'd love to see it US only but I could live with that if it was 6 inchies to just 1 partner. Just think, that would cost only about 1/4 as much as it is now.

Thank you for the advice, however I don't do any geographically restricted swaps, and I like having more than one partner because I like the chance connecting with more than one person in a swap. The $13.14 it could cost to send 26 inchies over 4 to 5 months seems like a bargain for the chance to connect with someone I might never have met.

Also, coming up with just 3-4 ideas that can be duplicated for each partner, as opposed to 6 different ideas for one partner, is a lot less stressful. Creativity does not come easy to me.

And, I know my time limitations. I run an extremely active and popular group, Notecards to Go, on Swap-Bot, as well as moderate another extremely active group, Wishlist. Those two groups require a good deal of my attention. I don't want to give the groups any less attention and I still want to be able to participate in a few other swaps. The way I have this swap structured allows me to do that.

OK, sorry about that . . . I just saw that you were in the other 'Inchies: For Everyone' swap (which I am also signed up for) and will be sending 9 inchies to 1 partner. I just thought if you could do it for that one than you could do it for this one as well.

Hi Postmuse -- Since I've never made an inchie before, I've been practicing. My question is do we need to put the word of the featured letter on the inchie too? For example, if I decide to do Alexander the Great for the "A", should I manage to write Alexander the Great somehow on the inchie? I was just thinking how my partner would know I'm trying to do Alexander the Great since it probably won't be too obvious exactly what it is.

paflip25 - the other inchie swap is not themed in anyway. I have been working on some inchies for it, since I've never made one before, and have the option of dropping it if I feel I can't make the deadline. Not so with a swap I coordinate.

YarnTails - no need to have the word on the front. We are including notes so we can give background if needed. As long as the letter is obvious on the front, we are good :-)

Sorry, I'm bowing out of this swap. I've had a trial run - I made some inchies and they are really really awful - I wouldn't want to inflict them on anyone! :-(

I'd never made inchies before, but saw this swap this morning and...tada! I have all the ones for this swap done. I don't think I could do inchies without a theme, though. Yay!

Do you have any materials restrictions, or additional size restrictions? 1 inch square covers two dimensions, but I was wondering about the thickness.

No maximum thickness requirement, although... the squares should be sturdy, so a cardstock backing at least.

Also, not restrictions on materials... clay, paper, glass, fabric, anything at all. EXCEPT, please keep in mind that some countries have very strict customs regulations so do not use any plant or other organic materials in your art.

My inchies are posted in my Flickr account. Both partners got similar inchies.
